Creating product descriptions is one of the most challenging tasks when selling online. If you are struggling with creating alluring product descriptions, do take a look at the several questions to ask yourself that might help you find the motivation you need.

  2. What problems are you solving?
  3. How are you tackling the problem?
  4. Are you using call-to-action?
  5. Does your product description describe the product accurately?
  6. Are you using attractive images?
  7. What is the size and color of the product?
  8. Are you following the current unit system?
  9. Is the description grammatically correct?
  10. Is the product dangerous or difficult to handle?

Question 01: Who is the product made for?

It is doubtful that your product targets every demographic. When you create a product description you should know who you are targeting, also known as your target market. When creating product descriptions, ask who you are targeting, what they are looking for, what problem my product solves for them, and why they are purchasing my product? 

Question 02: What problem are you solving?

Customers typically purchase a product to solve a problem in their lives. While writing a description, be sure to show customers what problem this product will solve for the customer. By demonstrating how your product will solve their problem, the customer can visualize how your product will fit in their life.

Question 03: Are you using call-to-action?

While writing a product description, you should always perform a call-to-action. A call-to-action (CTA) is a phrase designed to compel the reader to make a purchase. For example, you can use the phrase “buy now before they are gone” to encourage customers to purchase your product and create a sense of urgency.

Question 04: Does your product description describe the product accurately?

Perhaps the most important and most overlooked detail is deciding whether the product description you provide can accurately describe the product you are selling. Make sure your description communicates the features of your product honestly and accurately.

Question 05: Are you using attractive images?

Studies show that people are more inclined to look at images rather than read text. As the saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” In many cases, your product photos are the first impression your customers will have of your product, so be sure to use high-quality product photos that catch viewers’ attention.

Question 6: What is the size and color of the product?

Another simple question that you should be asking yourself when selling a product is to ask what the size and color of the product that you are selling is. If your product comes in different colors and sizes, you should mention each one of those sizes. There is nothing more disappointing than seeing your purchase arrive at a different size than you anticipated. Be sure to set clear expectations of your product before a customer makes a purchase.

Question 7: Are you following the correct unit system?

Different regions follow a different unit scheme for various things. For example, most of the world uses the metric scheme while most of America uses the Imperial system. If your target region of sale is America, the product description should follow the Imperial system, while for the rest of the world, a metric system should be followed. 

Question 8: Is the description grammatically correct?

A single typo in the product’s description dramatically reduces the chances of a purchase. Your product description is a way to build trust with customers, and grammatical errors can erase that trust. Be sure to proofread all your product descriptions to eliminate spelling and grammar errors.

Question 9: Is the product dangerous or difficult to handle?

You might have seen this on toys too, that products have a specific age group. The age group helps customers understand whether the product should be kept out of children’s reach or not. When you write your product description, be sure to advise customers if your product is dangerous, difficult to handle, or needs to be kept from a child’s reach.
