Congratulations on opening your store with Just Artisan. Here at Just Artisan, we are your biggest supporter and have developed a community of like-minded artisans to build each other up. We know you are anxious about your first sale and cannot wait for many more to come! Here are some tips on what to do now to grow your business:
Create an engaging storefront
You can have the best product out there, but to succeed you need to have an appealing storefront. Online consumers see a small thumbnail of a photo first. You need to ensure that your photos are your best foot forward. Your product photos are the first impression your customers have of your store, and great photography will result in more views. Take a thousand photos in different areas and lighting to find the perfect photos.
Have an amazing “About Us” section
If a customer goes to your “About Us” section, they have already given you a chance to make the sale. They want you to prove to them that you have put your heart and creativity into this product so they know they are getting the best product. In this section tell them exactly why you do what you do, and what inspired you to create your shop. Tell them your motivation and maybe give a sneak peek into the process (you don’t need to give away your trade secrets). Make sure to add your contact information and group media channels. Remember to keep it sweet and to the point and format it in a way that your customer doesn’t feel like they are reading an essay.
Be open to partnerships
One of the biggest milestones may be to have your product sold in a retail store. One way you can do this is by partnering with a company to have your products featured on their website, social media, or physically on their shelves. Don’t be afraid to reach out to potential influencers, or brands because the worst thing that can happen is they say no. A big new market is subscription boxes, and they are always looking for products to include for their subscribers. This may be one of the easiest ways to have your product in the hands of many customers. After receiving a subscription box with your product, the likelihood of them coming back to buy from you is great. Before you open yourself to a partnership, ensure you know how much you would price your products at a wholesale rate and have a minimum order quantity in mind. A wholesale discount of 50% off retail price is the ideal only if you are still making a profit and not selling at a loss.
Always be available to support your customers
Your customers want the peace of mind that they have support even after they purchase a product. They may have questions about use after it was delivered or even before they make a purchase. Customers may want to make sure your products are a good fit for them and providing great customer support can help you make a sale, or get a 5-star review.
Advertise on social media
Just Artisan will promote your products, but to maximize your coverage, it is important to advertise your store on social media. Great photography and a catchy title will go a long way to gaining followers and building your fanbase. Social media is a great way to gain feedback on your products so that you can continue to improve your store. You don’t need to be on every social media channel, and in our experience, Facebook and Instagram work best for promoting a shop.
Listen to your review feedback
Getting a negative review may seem like the end of the world, but it is a great time to take a step back and learn how to improve your brand. On average, 1% of all sales may result in a negative review. When you receive a negative review, listen to why your product did not meet their standards, and see if there is anything you can do to improve. Remember there are external forces that you cannot control, and sometimes the bad review will be beyond your control. At the end of the day, take every set review, good or bad, as a learning opportunity to gain feedback about your product, and always look to improve.
Track your statistics
It is important to track your statistics. If you notice that with every holiday you have an increase in sales, make sure you prepared for a higher volume, and offer a seasonal discount to encourage more sales. Around the holidays it is beneficial to have a sale to direct traffic to your store.
Running a Just Artisan store is a learning process. Embrace the idea of keeping your shop as a work-in-progress and do your best to continually improve. Focusing on product photos, titles, and tags can go a long way to getting more exposure and increasing your sales.
