Plant your most unique succulents in industrial minimalist style with a planter made from recycled metal pipe. With its round shape and small hints of the metal’s past in tiny nicks and small bits of corrosion, you may find yourself turning the planter around occasionally to see your plants and planter differently.
We kind of made these with the office in mind, but they would look just as lovely on a shelf or end table. One buyer has two, and is using them for bookends.
How we did it, is chop down longer lengths of pipe, smoothed the ends with a custom holder, and polished with a bit of scouring pad. The bottom is capped inside with a circle of cedar wood (the very durable water-resistant kind), heavily bonded with waterproof food-safe wood glue, and caulked with aquarium caulk.
We chose to use aquarium caulk and food-safe glue so we don’t poison your plants. You never know what sort of yucky keeps the imports together…
Four conspicuous rubber bumpers are screwed in place, and will help keep the piece from marring any furniture. We feel they add an industrially stylized appearance as well.
5″ wide x 3 tall
The best arrangement for this planter would be 3 or 4 two-inch potted succulents. Add sand and soil mix to the planter, add plants, more soil and sand mix, and lightly water.
1: Most succulent plants do well with no drainage, but if you prefer drainage holes, please let us know.
2: We completely understand not everyone who can pick up little potted plants would like to keep a big bag of potting soil and gravel kicking around. If you’d like, we can include decorative gravel and potting mix for a little more.
