Batik originally is a cloth that is painted using a traditional tool called canting and wax fluid so that it forms high artistic value of paintings on a cloth.
As current development, there are 4 types of batik based on the creation methods, hand drawn (batik tulis), hand chopped (cap), handpainted (colet), and printing.
Among 4 of them, the oldest method is batik tulis, which worn by Royal families, rulers, and nobles. Batik tulis process still uses a traditional tool canting which is filled with hot wax before applying it on the cloth to form a variety of beautiful batik motifs. After all the desired patterns have been covered with wax, the cloth is colored and the wax is removed from the fabric so that a beautiful batik motif is formed.
This very traditional batik creation method takes a very long time, months, even year. Batik tulis is a masterpiece of the artisan who pour their patience, time and commitment for changing a piece of blank cloth into a valuable work of art.
This batik originally comes from Madura which located in Madura island, Indonesia. Madura batik was developed since 17th century.

Batik Madura is known for its bright and bold colors, such as red, yellow, green and blue. In terms of motifs, Madurese batik has various motifs inspired by the forms of plants, animals, and combination motifs created by the batik artisan themselves, such as the Bekisar chicken, palace carriage, and the Karapan Sapi. The combination of colors and motifs are the hallmark of Batik Madura which makes it unique and different. Although some of them still influenced by other regions batik motifs, such as Java and Lasem.
